An often forgotten area of Bulgaria is her north western reaches, with the magnificent town of Vidin lying on the Danube River, nearby fortress towns and numerous caves. The Vidin area is one of the small regions of Bulgaria, bounded on the north by the Danube and on the west by Serbia. The region is diverse, alternating between the Danubean Plain and the main Balkan range.
