Sunflower Seeds - A Bulgarian's Favourite Snack

It isn't uncommon to see Bulgarians snacking on handfuls - even bagfuls - of sunflower seeds.

And while to you it may seem like the sort of snack you'd feed to the birds, they are in fact highly nutritious with endless health benefits.

Tasty, nutty sunflower seeds are jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, fibers, proteins and essential fatty acids- all important for human health. They are also one of the best foods you can eat to lower cholesterol.

You'll find them in all supermarkets, hulled and unhulled, for less than 1 Lev. You can eat them as a snack like the Bulgarians do, or sprinkle them over cereals, salads and desserts. They're a much healthier food to snack on than crisps and other junk food that many people eat for quickness.
