Bulgarian Red Wine | Stambolovo Reviewed

This beautiful Bulgarian red wine is Incorporated under the legal entity of New Industrial Company JCS, STAMBOLOVO WINERY and HASKOVO WINERY, as well as their vineyards and premises, are situated in South Bulgaria in close proximity to the borders with Greece and Turkey.

The region is of key geographic importance. The shortest road from Europe to Asia and Asia Minor passes through these lands.

Most probably this was the route by which the first vines were brought into what is today the territory of Bulgaria. This fact should to a large certainty determine the region as one of the first winemaking centres in Europe. With a history of almost 80 years in business, at present our two wineries are among the leading winemakers in Bulgaria. Due to the beneficial climatic and terroir characteristics of the region, as well as to time-proven quality and traditions, today the STAMBOLOVO brand name is regarded by most wine business professionals as the winery with the best, highest-quality and most typical Merlot wines in Bulgaria. Here are some general guide lines for wine tasting, and we have chosen 4 red wines from the Bulgarian Stambolovo winery for you to try.

Most Bulgarian Red wine is usually tasted at room temperature, yet the more precise definition is 16-18ºС. Open the bottle 2 hours in advance - the wine should take some air.

The tasting should usually start with the youngest wine and proceeds towards the one with the oldest year of vintage. By terms of sweetness, the tasting starts from dry non-aromatic wines and moves to sweet aromatic. When these two criteria contradict, the factor of vintage year prevails.

Always take a sniff at the cork. It sometimes happens to be defective and the wine therefore deteriorated or compromised - the smell of the cork will reveal this. Simply have the bottle replaced and you will have the wine justfully evaluated.
