Spectacular Sliven-A Wine Tasters Paradise

If you are a lover of fine wines then a trip to the the area around the town of Sliven is a must.

Sliven’s warm Mediterranean climate makes it an ideal location for grape growing and wine production and has spawned a successful wine producing industry.
The scenery of rows and rows as far as the eye can see of cultivated grape vines is breathtaking and set against the blue rocks which dominate this area it is the picture-perfect site to sit and marvel over the wonders of the world.

VINI- Sliven is currently one of the largest wineries in the country. Originally founded in 1920 as a winemaking cooperative called Shevka, it now has an annual capacity of around 80 million kg of grapes, 3 bottling lines, and 3,000 barrels. There are four wine cellars located in the towns of Nova Zagora and Shivatchevo, and the villages of Padarevo and Blatets. The winery produces red wines from a variety of different grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and white wines from the Chardonnay, Muscat, Traminer, Ugni Blanc, Rkatsiteli, Misket, and Aligote grapes. VINI also has its own distillery for the production of high quality grape brandy, vodka, and gin. Annually, the winery produces and bottles over 12 million bottles of white and red table and dessert wines and four million bottles of grape brandy, vodka, and gin.

VINI-Sliven have been working with some Australian wine consultants for several years in order to develop a diversified portfolio of young and aged wines, which are kept un-oaked and oaked in French, American, and Bulgarian barrels. Only 15% of the bottled wines stay within Bulgaria, while the rest are exported to Germany, the UK, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Canada, Poland, Japan and the USA. In recent years the winery has won many international awards.
Boutique winery Edoardo Miroglio is located in the region of Elenovo village close to Sliven and Nova Zagora. The cellar is surrounded by vineyards, a natural lake, and green meadows, which creates favourable conditions for wine tourism. The winery was opened by Italian investors in 2005 and has rapidly become one of Bulgaria’s leading vintners. The wine cellar in Elenovo produces three major brands: Edoardo Miroglio, Sant’Ilia and Saint Ilia Estate. Edoardo Miroglio is offered exclusively to selected restaurants, hotels, and specialized wine stores. Sant’Ilia and Saint Ilia Estate brands are our commercial brands designated for the domestic and export markets.
Vinprom is a large wine producing conglomerate which resulted from the merger of two privatised Bulgarian wineries, Vinprom Shumen and Vinis Yambol. This merger and inevitable expansion lead to the building of a new wine production plant in Sliven.
