Lactobacillus Bulgaricus (Bulgarian Yogurt)

Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, known to most of us as Bulgarian yogurt is said to be the finest quality yogurt in the world.

This is mainly due to its quality ingredients and bacteria which makes it one of the healthiest foods to consume. Health organizations across the globe agree that it is this which is responsible for the longevity of Bulgarian people, who for many years have held the world record for the highest number of people aged 100 years and older. Although the yogurt of Bulgaria has only been known worldwide since the 19 century, it has actually been produced and consumed by Bulgarians for several centuries, an important part of Bulgaria’s heritage which they are very proud of.

Anti Ageing Benefits

Professor Ilya Metchnikoff, a Russian scientist discovered that ageing in humans is a direct result of proteolytic in our bodies which produce toxic substances in the bowels. This bacterium is thought to be responsible for the gradual ageing in humans. Metchnikoff also noticed that countries in Eastern Europe such as Bulgaria, consumed a considerably larger quantity of dairy foods such as milk and of course their yogurt Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, and it was his research in to this fact that he discovered that these dairy foods could actually halt the ageing effects of proteolytic on the body. The conclusion was that lactic acid already present in the stomach would ferment with the milky foods and prevent the production of proteolytic bacteria, thus reversing the ageing process to an extent. The results were more evident in the villages and other rural areas of Bulgaria where the natives Bulgarians would typically consume more fresh milk and yogurt that that of their towns and cities counterparts. The reason for this was simply down to the lack of money in rural Bulgaria compared to that of the busy cities. The yogurt could be produced very cheaply in rural areas due to an abundance of milk producing cattle.

Lactobacillus Bulgaricus for Health

Thankfully these days more and more of us are taking our health more serious, and there is nothing better for us than adding Bulgarian yogurt to our everyday diet plan. The natural bacteria in this yogurt is a type of microflora which is beneficial for keeping the immune system strong by fighting off the harmful bacteria which tends to invade our digestive system from time to time. Bulgarian yogurt contains the very best bacteria for this task, known as probiotic.

Although most of us don’t really need to take the probiotics every day, they do however perform extremely well for anyone who suffers from a problem gut, generally as a result of an imbalance of bacteria. It has also shown remarkable results when used to assist in the treatment and prevention of E Coli.

Try it for yourself!

Upon a visit to Bulgaria, you will see a wide range of yogurts for sale in almost every food shop or supermarket. You can eat the yogurt straight from the pot using a spoon, or alternatively drink it by first shaking the pot for 2 minutes. This will thin the consistency enough to make it pourable.
