estate agents in bulgaria facing difficult timesIt has been reported this week that some 3,000 Bulgarian estate agents are potentially likely to close their doors because of the global financial crisis, with up to 7,000 brokers losing their jobs. During this year estate agents are expecting a decrease in the number of property transactions in Bulgaria, as many buyers are waiting for prices to go down.

Apart from the economic climate, there are also other reasons why some estate agents will close their doors in the coming year.

The "Beautiful Bulgaria" Project 2009

beautiful bulgariaIn 2009, some 241 designated locations on the territory of Bulgaria will be improved with funds from the state budget under the "Beautiful Bulgaria" project, with a total of 21 million euros. The money will be allocated to 160 Bulgarian municipalities, which have successfully submitted their projects for the revival and improvement of their respective locations. Reported by

What Crisis?

new gated housing complex in sofiaDespite the global financial crisis, construction commenced this week on a new gated complex in the capital, Sofia. The inauguration of the work was attended by the Minister for Regional Development and the Director of Technoexportstroy.

The complex comprises 41 detached houses, with double garages, and is close to the Business Park and Vitosha mountain.

Whilst it was only a few weeks ago that hoteliers were talking about a 25% or bigger fall in tourists; it appears that they are now confident that there will be only a small fall in numbers.

At the start of the season bookings were in a slump but with a raft of special promotions, bookings have picked up considerably.

Low Interest Rates Will Help

Low interest ratesAs expected by analysts the European Central Bank cut interest rates by 0.5% to just 2.0% in the middle of this month, on the back of reports that the Eurozone's economic slowdown could get worse than was previously thought. If this is passed down to consumers, it could make property purchases in Bulgaria even more appealing.
