The data revealed that from January to September 2008 the number of foreign tourists visiting the country had increased by over 18% and that end of year figures are set to be equally healthy – with a 20% year on year increase predicted.

The knock-on effect of these statistics for the country’s tourism sector has been extremely positive.

This is part of the city's new master plan, "due to be launched this year, this will be a 21st-century take on King Ferdinand’s grand scheme.

New Winter Sports Complex

The centre which comprises 20 km. of new ski tracks and a new ski lift was opened by Bulgaria's biathlon gold medalist, Ekaterina Dafovska who won her gold in the 1998 Olympics.

It is now fully available in Bulgaria, after an infringement procedure was taken by the EC during October last year. Threatened with the EC referring the case to the European Court of Justice,The Bulgarian authorities pulled out all the stops and made the effort to catch up with the other EU countries to implement 112 before Christmas.
