Corruption on the Agenda

get rid of corruptionDeputy Prime Minister, Meglana Plugchieva, said that "Bulgaria must prove it deserves its European membership", during the official opening this week of the conference which focuses on the misuse of European funds.

Interior Minister Mihail Mikov, the Justice Minister, Miglena Tacheva and Miklos Marshall, Director of Transparency International (for Europe and Central Asia) are all speaking at the conference which is being held in the capital city of Sofia.

Madara Horseman in Lights

new laser showThe Madara Rider, an early medieval relief, carved on the Madara Plateau rock near Shoumen will soon be seen "galloping" along the rocks, reports The Standart today. Visual effects experts are working on the project to revive the symbol of Bulgaria and to turn it into a unique light show.

The light show with a hologram image of the rider will be able to be seen far away - even from the Sofia-Varna highway.

Changes for Dot BG

changes to dot bg registration bulgariaDuring last week there were changes made to dot bg domain name registrations. It is no longer necessary to provide grounds for the use of a name, as was previously required.

To order and register a .bg domain name previously, one had to show proof of ownership or the right to use the name, based upon such things as registration as a company, patent, etc.

Google and the Russians

Google steps up its presence in russiaThe search engine giant, Google, is stepping up its presence in Russia. It recently acquired Begun which is the ad engine of the second largest search engine. This will allow Google to strengthen its position in Russia and increase the number of property buyers real estate agents can reach.

Russian property portal entrepreneur, Ivailo Jordanov expects Begun’s websites to be added to Google’s content network “fairly quickly”.

One Life Bulgaria

I first came to Bulgaria in 1999 and worked for the British Embassy as a military diplomat. Following my retirement in 2003, and a short period of time in the UK, I returned to Bulgaria to live and work. Shortly after my return I was asked to take on the Chairmanship of the charity.

One Life Bulgaria is a Sofia based charity which is dedicated to looking after the less fortunate children in Bulgaria.
