Book review - for serious hikers

Walking in Bulgaria's National Parks, published by Cicerone and written by Julian Perry, is an essential addition to any serious hikers and naturalists that really want to get off the beaten track and see the amazing wealth of landscapes and biodiversity that Bulgaria has to offer.

The book introduces fit and experienced walkers to the finest mountain walking in Bulgaria, along panoramic ridges and even over Musala and Vihren, the two highest peaks in the country.

Containing 12 two to three day hikes in the Pirin, Rila and Central Balkan National parks, each walk is illustrated with colour sketch maps. The book contains colour photographs throughout and, even though the book is well over 250 pages long, it is a compact size with plastic laminated, flexible book covers, perfect for wedging in a backpack.

As well as detailed routes and extensive information about the various plants and wildlife, the book also offers the reader an insight into Bulgarian history, culture and language.

Whilst this book is aimed at serious walkers with a good head for heights,  who can tackle long steep ascents and descents, often over rocks and boulders, it is a fantastic guide to the very best walks that Bulgaria has to offer.

Highly Recommended.
