The Supermoon

Tonight Saturday 19 March 2011, for all lovers of Astonomy around the world the moon will be at its closest to the Earth in 19 years, and some 356 577 kilometres away.

The Supermoon as it is termed,or perigee by scientists,is when a new or full moon occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.

It will also appear  much larger and brighter, in particular when it rises on the eastern horizon at sunset.

Some studies link the connection with natural disasters, such as earthquakes and Tsunamis, and the moon's increased gravitational strength.

Unfortunately the forecast for the weather across Bulgaria is cloud and cool, so it may not be visible to most of the country and disappointing for those wishing to catch a glimpse of the event.
