Varna Airport To Close For Repairs

Varna airport, located north of Bulgaria's

Black sea coast will be suspend all its flights at the end of the summer season due to repairs and maintenance.

The forthcoming disruption at Varna airport is well overdue and will start at the end of the summer season, on the 15 October 2011 and is expected to be finished at the end of February 2012.

It is the first time since Varna airport first opened more than 50 years ago that the airport will have closed. The work will include new asphalt surfaces to the airport, lengthening of the runway and maintenance.

Announcements are already being made to inform air companies of the disruptions and closure.

The flights will be redirected to Burgas airport situated 100 km away on the southern part of the coast. To help combat the situation Varna will be providing a free bus service to connect passengers from Burgas to Varna during the duration of the closure period.
It will of course create longer road journeys by car or bus for those who travel between the capital Sofia and Varna for regular business meetings.
