The Bulgarian Rose Valley Festival

Saturday May 26 brought out the residents of Sushitsa in Karlovo and other areas of Bulgaria to celebrate the start of a weeklong rose festival.


Rose picking traditionally begins during the last week of May every year and it has been this way since 1712.

Many retailers and manufacturers attended the festival in order to demonstrate the many ways in which rose water can be used to compliment food stuffs, rose yogurt, rose brandy and rose jam proved to be popular additions.

The rose growing region of Bulgaria, known as ‘Rose Valley' is known to be a highly attractive area for the many thousands of tourists who are expected to arrive there from within Bulgaria and abroad. Those who attend can enjoy browsing around the many stalls selling rose products, including traditional bread. The event will also have entertainment in the form of singing and dancing.
