Tourism Rising in Bulgaria

As the summer heats up in Bulgaria, so does the tourist season. The Bulgarian government has previously invested millions of leva into promoting the country and its attractions through a range of euro channels including Euro news, Euro sport, National Geographic, and Discovery advertisements.

Furthermore, additional promotional marketing campaigns have been introduced to boost Bulgaria's travel industry in countries such as Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Russia, Germany and Sweden. Tourism is a top priority in the economy and the funds provided to develop this sector is what the Bulgarian government is working towards.

Bulgaria's travel industry is important and accounts for over 10% of the country's revenue. The forecast for this year is to see an overall annual increase on last year by 5-8%. Statistics based on 2011 figures have revealed that 6 330 000 international tourists visited Bulgaria, and it is expected that the figure will rise this year because of the additional promotions that Bulgaria has to offer.

Summer so far...

Currently the official summer season is well underway for the whole of the country and the forecast looks good for this season. The highest percentage of tourists will choose holidays along the resorts of the Black sea coast. However, inland rural mountainous regions have also seen a rise in bookings for those seeking an alternative vacation this summer. Last month some of Bulgaria's exclusive spa and mineral resorts in Hissar, Pomorie, Sandanski, Varshets and Velingrad had reported a rise in bookings for mini breaks from those seeking pampering and relaxation.

With much of Europe watching the purse strings, Bulgaria still offers good value for money, by way of package holidays.
