Bulgaria Ski Resort Roundup

There are some good reports coming out of the winter holiday resorts in Bulgaria for this ski season. Whilst it was only a few weeks ago that hoteliers were talking about a 25% or bigger fall in tourists; it appears that they are now confident that there will be only a small fall in numbers.

At the start of the season bookings were in a slump but with a raft of special promotions, bookings have picked up considerably.

Bookings were down from both Brits and Russians but other nationalities, such as Greeks and Romanians are more in number this year. Cut price deals are on offer, with hoteliers slicing 15% off room rates and the new trend, 'aparthotels', offering very cheap prices.

Resort roundup

Borovets
"I have just come back from Borovets and had a really good week's skiing. Good snowfalls which produced excellent conditions, particularly at the top of the mountain. The snow cannons should give good conditions for a good length of time yet. Excellent value for money on the food front, particularly if you venture out of the resort. Ten of us had several drinks, three courses and it was only 212 leva. Food and service were excellent. Will be going back next year."

Bansko
"I'd been worried about going to Bansko for our main ski holiday this year as people had said bad things. But we had a great time with super weather. Everyone was friendly and the service was good."

Pamporovo
"Prices were much the same as last year, with it being more expensive in the resort than outside. Our hotel was new and clean. Big rooms and a very good spa. We even had free transport into town. Service had really improved this year. Everyone was really friendly and the whole holiday was cheap but good quality everywhere."
