Plovdiv takes initiative to alleviate stray dog problem

A new website launched by Plovdiv Municipality has made it possible for wanna-be pet owners to choose a pet online from a large choice housed at the city pound on Pazardjishko St. The site was prepared in conjunction with the students from Plovdiv’s European College for Economics and Management as part of their course with the municipality's environmental protection directorate.

Anyone who wants a pet can view all of the animals available online and then pay 6 lv. for a Pet Passport from the municipality vet. The pet also receives an identification tag attached to its ear. Animals can be viewed in person from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 1 pm and from 2 pm until 4 pm.
In a further attempt to make pet owners responsible for their animals, Plovdiv Municipality has announced that dog owners must get a dog licence before the end of March. It costs 20 lv.  a year. Those people with guide dogs, Red Cross dogs, hunting dogs and those registered to a company are exempt from this fee although everyone must register their dog.
