Bulgarian Property Price Data 2008

The Bulgarian National Statistic Institute has reported data on property prices in 2008. The figures exclude new builds and are based on apartment properties sold. Overall prices in the regional cities rose by nearly 25% during last year compared with the previous year. Prices increased from January to October. However in the last quarter of the year prices fell by 4.1% compared to the previous three months.


This confirms survey information from Bulgarian Properties which showed that property sales were concluded at prices 26% above those of the previous year.

The National Statistic Institute revealed that prices in Sofia showed the highest increase during 2008, almost 48%. However, prices also rose in other popular locations including Lovech, Rousse and Yambol, where gains were about 30%. Sliven, Stara Zagora and Razgrad all recorded increases of over 23%.

The sharpest price falls in the last quarter of 2008 were seen in Veliko Turnovo and Targovishte, where prices decreased by over 11%. Although over the whole year, prices in these locations rose by 27.5% and 5.8%.

The towns recording increases during the fourth quarter compared with the three months in the third quarter included Bourgas, Vratsa and Montana.
