Bulgarian property: ski and the city

If you want to buy a property so that you can ski all day, spend evenings in the heart of a European capital city and be close to an international airport then Sofia, Bulgaria ticks all the boxes.

Sofia provides a unique opportunity for overseas property purchasers which you just simply can't experience in any other EU capital. Cheap property, minutes to the slopes and a nearby airport. The city is full of culture and the popular ski resort of Vitosha mountain is directly on hand: not to mention a golf course within 15 minutes too!

Sofia offers homebuyers a unique mix of attributes. The city is improving all the time as EU money makes its presence felt. From nearly everywhere in downtown Sofia you can see the backdrop of the stunning Vitosha mountain which is easily accesible within minutes. After spending a day on the slopes, you can come back home and get your glad rags on for an evening out at any one of hundreds of restaurants, bars and night clubs.

Property in Sofia means you aren't stuck with only a couple of restaurants and cheap Bulgarian lager of an evening, nor are you going to have to leave at the crack of dawn to get back to the airport. If the snow isn't at its best or you tire of snowboarding, then there is plenty to do in the city. Furthermore, it will make a great base for any time of year, having all-year-round appeal.

Buying in the capital makes good investment sense, whether for your own holidays or purely for financial return. Ski resorts in the mountains are trying to cater for buyers interest in more than just ski from their overseas home but for many purchasers there is more appeal buying in a city with everything going on whenever they want it.

Vitosha has maintained its thrall for years with the locals and you'll find most Sofians head for the mountain at the weekends in both summer and winter. For the ski or snowboarding buffs, Vitosha will never lack skiable area, with nearly 4,000 acres available. The vertical drop on the mountain is a stunning 2,099 feet!

Whilst one may say that it will not interest for long the most ardent black run experienced skier, it more than makes up for this with a high average of blue and green ski runs, which will delight couples and families alike.

Plans are afoot to invest some 70 million euros in development of the Vitosha ski area. The Ministry of the Environment is investigating the project. The plan would be to put in 30 million euros into tourist infrastructure and new ski tracks and a further 20 million into ski lifts, increasing capacity by ten times.

There has been much softening of the prices in the main resorts of Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo but Sofia has fared much better. A capital city provides a 'feel good factor' to assure buyers and in these times, people do not want uncertainty. Numerous ready completed new properties are available in the city, together with renovated buildings, all ready to move into and bargains abound.

The appeal of a city property in Sofia, with ski within minutes in winter, great walking and hiking in summer, restaurants around the corner and only half an hour from the airport is clear.
